On the 4th December, 1971, Assistant Commandant Lal Thawma Lushai led a company attack on an enemy position in the Eastern Sector. He carried out a river crossing and long encircling movement during the night in order to assault the enemy position from the near. He took the enemy completely by surprise and ranover the position inflicting heavy casualties. On the 10th December, 1971, Assistant Commandant Lalthawma Lushai again carried out a wide out-flanking move around another enemy position and established a road block. He carried out this move expeditiously inspite of enemy resistance at four different points and in the process captured eight enemy personnel. Again, on the 14th December, 1971, he carried out another outflanking move and thus helped in the capture of the objective.In all these actions, Assistant Commandant Lalthawma Lushai displayed gallantry, leadership and devotion to duty of a high order.
