Regt No. 66788198 LNk Mohini Ranjan Chakaraborty of 78 BnBSF attained martyrdom on 20 Nov 1971 at Raiganj whileperforming IB duty. Born on 10 May 1943 LNkMohaniRanjanChakaraborty joined BSF on 5 May 1963. Unit was tasked to capture North bank of Phulkumari River near, Raiganj.Two Coys left their location at AndharijharKhamar at0001 hrs on night 19 / 20 Nov 1971 and occupied position onthe bank of Phulkumarireiver.A fierce battle occured between the enemy and our force, the enemy bunkers were very heavilyfortified.The BSF had a tough time to dislodge the enemy. In this battle LNkMohiniRanjan Chakraborty also sustainedbullet injuries and later succumbed to these injuries on the spot.Raiganj was occupied on 21 Nov 1971 by BSF. His sacrifice has been recognized by Govt of India by awardinghim “Vir Chakra”(Posthumously). His next of kin SmtBiva Rani Chakraborty(mother) resides atVill - Sahebkatcharipara, PO & PS - Balurghat, Distt - South DinajpurWest Bengal.
