WATER WING AT A GLANCE:
BSF Water Wing was raised in 1966 initially for riverine borders of West Bengal. Other Water Wing Estts were raised in the following subsequent years: –
- 1966 - WW West Bengal
- 1968 - WW Punjab
- 1969 - WW Bhuj
- 1973 - WW Dhubri
- 1988 - WW N/Bengal
- 1989 - WW Jammu
- 1990 - WW Kashmir
- 1991 - WW Silchar
- 2012 - Marine Bhuj
Water Wing is an independent cadre and functioning under Prov Dte, FHQ and looked after by DIG (Water Wing) under the supervision of the IG (Prov).
MAIN TASKS OF WATER WIN
- To Operate Watercrafts & Boats in riverine borders for area domination by patrolling & physical presence with GD personnel.
- Carry men & material from shore to FBOP & to land BOPs across river.
- Rescue operations during flood situation in border areas.
- To initiate procurement process for new watercrafts.
- Monitoring repair & maintenance of watercrafts, boats & OBMs.
- Framing new QRs/revision of old QRs of Watercrafts/Boats.
- Promotion/Posting/Training of WW technical staff
- To co-ordinate the activities of 9 WW Field Establishments in 8 Frontiers.
