On 30th August 2003, on the basis of specific information regarding presence of a hardcore terrorist Rana Tahir Nadeem alias Gazi Baba, Chief Operational Commander of J-e-M in a house in Noorbagh (Srinagar), a search & cordon operation was launched by Border Security Force. Shri NarindraNathDhar Dubey along with other officers/ personnel entered into the building by breaking down the door of the house. The ground & first floor of the house were searched. On reaching the second floor of the house, it was found vacant. However, Shri Dubey got suspicious on noticing two wardrobes which were placed in the room in peculiar manner. He instructed the personnel to take cover and hit the mirror fixed on the wardrobe. On the mirror being hit, a trap door swung open and the terrorists hiding therein opened heavy volume of fire and lobbed grenades. Shri Dubey along with Constable Balbir Singh sustained multiple bullet injuries. Despite injuries, both of them returned fire. One of the terrorists jumped out of the hiding place and was about to fire upon Shri Dubey at close range, when Constable Balbir Singh, in utter disregard to his own life, jumped in front of the officer. Constable Balbir Singh received the bullet in his abdomen and succumbed to injuries on the spot. Shri Dubey pounced on the terrorist and caught hold of his rifle. The terrorist drew a pistol and shot at Shri Dubey shattering his forearm and rushed out. Grievously injured and profusely bleeding, Shri Dubey ran after the terrorist and killed him on the spot. The dead terrorist was subsequently identified as the notorious Rana Tahir Nadeem alias Gazi Baba. Despite having sustained eight bullet injuries on his body and a shattered arm, Shri Dubey while being evacuated continued to guide and exhort his officers and men for the successful resolution of the on-going fire fight with the remaining terrorists. Shri NarindraNathDhar Dubey displayed conspicuous gallant action, raw courage, selflessness, stellar leadership qualities and showed exemplary devotion to duty, unmindful of his own safety while fighting the terrorists
