Subsidiary Training Centre, BSF, Kashmir was established in Humhama near Srinagar Airport on 10 June, 1990. Prior to 1990, all training activities pertaining to FTR HQ BSF Kashmir & FTR HQ BSF Baramulla were dealt by STC Udhampur. STC BSF Kashmir was raised under Command Shri N S Kanwar, Commandant, keeping in view the training requirements of Kashmir Frontier to impart Basic Training to the Constables and run various in-service courses.
This STC has played pivotal role in preparing BSF personnel (Constable to Officers) not only by imparting training in routine professional subjects, but also in subjects like counter-insurgency, counter-terrorism and anti-infiltration. Pre Induction training of Battalions also used to be carried out during militancy period, for their successful induction and to enhance Operational capability. Hence, this STC has contributed immensely in curbing militancy in J&K.
