IG's MESSAGE
It is indeed a matter of privilege and honor to take over the command of the prominent Guwahati Frontier, the youngest BSF Frontier in the northeastern part of India. Guwahati Frontier was established on October 1, 2011, by bifurcating the Guwahati Sector (now Dhubri Sector, consisting of three units) from the A & M Frontier and Cooch Behar Sector (consisting of three regular units and one ANO unit from North Bengal Frontier). Under the command of Sh R K Chaudhary, Inspector General, SHQ FALAKATA, with three regular units, was later integrated with this Frontier on April 1, 2012.
2. I consider it a privilege to be entrusted with the responsibility to command the Guwahati Frontier. The Area of Responsibility (AOR) of this Frontier spans two adjoining states, West Bengal and Assam, a sensitive and vulnerable area from the viewpoint of trans-border crimes. With recent confidence-building measures and dialogue between India and Bangladesh, border management has become even more sensitive, requiring non-lethal practices and restraint. This Frontier also faces the challenge of mighty rivers specially Brahmaputra crossing the border and non-feasible gaps. I am happy to note that despite challenges, our Border men tackle them with a determined mind and supreme confidence.
3. Since its inception, the BSF has etched its history with unmatched excellence, whether in internal security, counter-insurgency, or anti-naxal operations. We are mandated to prevent trans-border crimes, unauthorized entry or exit from India, prevent smuggling, and provide security to the border population. The professional approach and meticulous execution of tasks bestow the Force with the status of the first line of defense. BSF's courage and hard work earn the respect of human rights and cooperation from the border population.
4. I expect our troops to be professionally sound, physically fit, morally high, and happy both on and off duty. Discipline, punctuality, and compliance should be our motto. The welfare of our personnel is crucial, emphasizing the holistic well-being of all Jawans and officers. Infrastructure development for the troops will receive my prompt attention. The Guwahati Frontier has been executing several welfare projects under the Civic Action Plan for the border population. After surveys, we have proposed to the state government several projects to improve infrastructure in border villages under the Border Area Development Plan. Despite challenging conditions, it is a satisfaction that our BSF personnel diligently protect the border and reduce trans-border crimes.
5. It is a matter of great pride and professional satisfaction to command BSF Frontier Guwahati, facing many operational challenges. Besides countering trans-border crimes and smuggling, perceptible changes in the attitude of the border population toward border management are needed. While enforcing the law, we must respect human rights, local culture, customs, and the self-respect of the border population, who have always supported our trusted and tested friends and force multipliers. Winning hearts and minds has been a major thrust area of BSF Guwahati Frontier, which provides security and succor to the border population in distress, extending help during pandemics and other emergencies through medical aid, awareness programs and law and order duties.
6. Management of cordial relations with our counterparts is another critical aspect of effective border management. The Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP) and adopting a non-lethal paradigm are essential steps in that direction. It is imperative that all ranks correctly understand and implement CBMP while upholding the Force& mandate.
7. This website aims to bring transparency to this Frontier, particularly in areas directly or indirectly impacting the general public. Let us live up to the motto of our illustrious force:
जीवन पर्यंत कर्त्तव्य
JAI HIND!
