BRIEF ABOUT FRONTIER

HISTORY OF GUWAHATI FRONTIER

Guwahati Frontier was raised on 1st Oct 2011 under the command of Shri R. K. Chaudhary, Inspector General BSF, by bifurcating Guwahati sector (now Dhubri sector) from Meghalaya Frontier consisting of 03 units and Coochbehar sector from North Bengal Frontier consisting of 03 border deployed units and one ANO unit. Newly raised Falakata sector with 03 units was inducted under this Ftr on 1st April 2012.

At present Guwahati Frontier is guarding 495 Kilometres of International Border with Bangladesh. Guwahati frontier has one well-equipped Water Wing based at Dhubri for effective domination of the riverine borders. The frontier has also been contributing to the call of the nation in times of natural disasters and has also been assisting the civil authorities in maintaining law and order situation in any State of the Country.

NATURAL RESORCES

Assam is bestowed with petroleum, natural gas, coal, limestone and other minor minerals such as magnetic quartzite, kaolin, clay, feldspar etc. A small quantity of iron ore is available in western districts. Discovered in 1889, all the major petroleum-gas reserves are in Upper Assam.

CLIMATE

With the ''Tropical Monsoon Rainforest Climate'', Assam exhibits temperate like climate (summer max. 35-38 degree Celsius and winter min. 6-8 degree Celsius and experiences heavy rainfall and high humidity. This climate is characterized by heavy monsoonal downpours reducing summer temperatures and affecting foggy nights and mornings in winters. Thunderstorms known as 'Bordoicila' are frequent during the afternoons. Spring (Mar-Apr) and autumn (Sept-Oct) are usually pleasant with moderate rainfall and temperature.
