
Malda Frontier came into existence in BSF on 1st Sept 2010 on bifurcation of North Bengal and South Bengal Ftr for guarding Indo-Bangladesh border, at a distance of 7 Kms from District town Malda adjacent to NH-34. Firstly this Ftr was operationalized alongwith 9 Bns, having 567.330 Kms AOR from BP No. 183/MP to 385/5-S, manning 134 BOPs which started from M S Pur in the Southern flank and Last BOP Belagachi on Northern flank. 02 new Bns( 125 & 134 ) were raised on 1st Dec 2010, and were deployed on border on 20/21 June 2011 and the AOR was increased up to BP No. 10/6-S (BOP Nimtita) to 385/5-S (BOP Belagachi) with total distance of 606.830 Kms.
The said AOR was handed over to SB Ftr and NB Ftr on 18th Jan 2013, as per the direction of the FHQ as Malda Ftr was earmarked to shift from IB scenario to ANO scenario.
Ftr HQ Malda was rechristened as HQ IG (Spl Ops) Chhattisgarh and started functioning w.e.f. 7th Feb 2013 with its THQ at Bhilai and Rear HQ at PAD, Pushpa Bhawan, New Delhi. Later on, KLP of the Ftr was made at Greater Noida, U.P
The Ftr took over Ops responsibility from THQ IG (Spl Ops) Bangalore which was shifted to Bhubaneswar, later on.
On 06th Dec 2009, 5 units in Kanker and 5 units in koraput & malkangiri were inducted.
BSF further increased its presence to (2) FTR, (4) sectors and (15) Bns in Feb’ 2013.
One additional BSF Bn inducted in kanker district south of Bande in Dec’ 2014
Presently Ftr having two SHQrs and 08 Bns.
