It is indeed a matter of privilege and honour to take over the command of prominent Meghalaya Frontier, which is the oldest BSF Frontier in the North Eastern part of India. It was established in 1971 and was assigned mandate for all the North Eastern states. However, at present, the Frontier looks after 444.8 Kms of Bangladesh border within Meghalaya state. The Frontier has distinction of encompassing forest, undulating ground and webs of rivulets. Our Bordermen surmount all these challenges with a determined mind and supreme confidence.
2. Since its inception, BSF has etched its history with unmatched sterling service to the nation, be it internal security, counter-insurgency or anti-naxal operations. We are mandated to prevent trans-border crimes, unauthorized entry into or exit from the territory of India, prevent smuggling, other illegal activities and promote a sense of security among the people living in the border areas. The professional approach and capability of meticulous execution of assigned tasks bestows the Force with the status of the first line of defence. BSF is defending our borders with courage and hard work, giving due respect to human rights and earning cooperation of border population.
3. I expect our troops to be professionally sound, physically fit, morally high and socially happy both on and off duty. Discipline, punctuality and compliance along with sincere professionalism at all levels should be our motto. The welfare of our personnel has to be given due importance and emphasis has to be given on holistic wellbeing of all jawans and officers. The BSF personnel deployed on the border have to often work under harsh and challenging conditions but it is a matter of great satisfaction that they are performing their duties diligently and have been successful in bringing down the trans-border crimes and protecting the border from hostile elements.
4. It is a matter of great pride and professional satisfaction to command BSF Frontier Meghalaya, wherein operational challenges being faced by it’s rank and file are manifold. Besides countering trans-border crimes & smuggling, there is a need to make perceptible changes in the attitude of the border population towards border management. While enforcing the law of the land, we should bear in mind the respect for human rights, local culture & customs and self-respect of the border population who have always been our trusted and tested friends and force multipliers. Winning hearts and minds of border population has been a major thrust area of BSF Meghalaya Frontier provides security succor to the people of the Meghalaya in distress by extending helping hand to them during pandemic and other exigencies in the form of medical aid, awareness programs, distribution of food and ration to the needy and also in law and order duties.
5. Management of cordial relations with our counterparts is yet another important aspect in effective border management. The coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP) and adoption of non-lethal paradigm is an important step in that direction. It is imperative that the spirit of CBMP is correctly understood by all ranks and the same is implemented while upholding the mandate of the force.
6. This website is aimed at bringing about transparency in the functioning of this Frontier, particularly relating to areas that have a direct or indirect impact on the general public. Let us all live upto the motto of our illustrious force "जीवन पर्यन्त कर्तव्य".
