HISTORY OF BSF CENTRAL SHOOTING TEAM
What CSWT BSF Indore is to Combat and Sports Shooting in India is perhaps matched by Sansarpur (PB) to Indian Hockey or Kolkata to Indian Football and Mumbai to Indian Cricket Aptly said. Soon after the raising of BSF in Dec 1965, its shooters established a hegemony in combat shooting by winning most medals and trophies at stake at the apex level annual competition i.e. All India Police Duty Meet. Since 1974 Reoti Ranges are home to BSF shooters who are trained and groomed here. Many among them have distinguished themselves at International and National level competitions. BSF Reoti Ranges have hosted many National shooting and All India Police Shooting Competitions under the aegis of NRAI & AIPSCB respectively. Many from among BSF combat shooting team graduated to the Central Sports Shooting team of BSF. They started winning individual and team championships at national level Competitions towards mid-1970 and a few among these like Late Sh Mohinder Lal, Sh Surinder Marwah, Sh Gyan Chand held their way for many years. A number of them represented the country at International Shooting Competitions and by winning a large number of medals brought laurels to the nation. These Olympians, Asian & Commonwealth games participants and winners also dominated SAF games for long. It is perhaps due to their pioneering efforts that India has a stake in the shooting sports at International level today. Special Mention is due to Late Sh Mohinder Lal, who an iconic figure in the Indian Shooting Sports fraternity. Represented India at all International events and winning a number of medals in the process, he was bestowed with the ARJUNA AWARD in 1983. BSF Shooters have won 59 medals at International level till date. It is a tribute to CSWT Indore that all these International shooters have flourished after having trained hard at our ranges.
